23-27 June 2012, Istanbul, Turkey
The theme of this year’s edition is “Sharing environmental information, sharing innovation”. The aim of this year’s INSPIRE Conference is, therefore, to look at how innovations in these three areas of Governance, Content, and Technologies have further shaped the landscape of sharing environmental information. The technical program will feature keynote addresses, workshops, and panels, in addition to presentations and posters.
The call for contributions reflects the following three pillars: Governance, Content and Technologies. In particular, as 2012 is the European Year for Water, the conference is interested in receiving submissions relating to Water (Water Framework Directive, Plan Bleu, EEA Water Watch, Blue Carbon…)
Water consumption is one of the twelve environmental indicators used to assess applications by cities applying to become the European Green Capital. The 2012 European Green Capital Vitoria-Gasteiz has an ambitious objective of reducing domestic water consumption to below 100 litres per capita per day. Today the water consumption in Vitoria-Gasteiz has decreased steadily between 1999 and 2009. Water-related investments have been made within the context of the Agenda 21 environmental action plan for improved water supply to reduce losses, work towards sustainable consumption and improve water quality. A citizen’s information office on water consumption and efficiency has also been set up. For more information on what Vitoria-Gasteiz is doing click here.
