Fitur- The International Tourism Trade Fair lays out its Green Carpet

The European Green Capital Vitoria prominently in the International Tourism Fair, Fitur. The opening ceremony was attended by the mayor of Vitoria, Javier Maroto, who this time travels Fitur and Deputy General Alava, among others, and responsible for tourism.

The Mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz,Javier Maroto, said he was “very proud” of Vitoria-Gasteiz role is having on this show. ‘I am witnessing the interest being generated on the opening day. The European Green Capital is an award earned by all and we must seize this opportunity to put our city on the map and give it value. So Fitur is the best showcase to publicize what we have to offer”, said the Mayor.

Being green is the hallmark of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the European Green Capital 2012, and this is being showcased at the Fitur International Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid.

Vitoria-Gasteiz believes “Green is Capital”, and that being green will increase tourism into the City and the Basque region as a whole, and show how having the title European Green Capital will, and has in previous winning cities, increased tourism.

A green carpet which was a mile long and two meters wide, was laid out as a bike path from one end of the exhibition to the other and had the Vitoria-Gasteiz European Green Capital brand on the carpet, to showcase the importance of sustainable and “green” tourism.

Vitoria- Gasteiz demonstrated what it means to be a green city, and why they are the 2012 European Green Capital. The city also be showcased all the sustainability and environmental events it will be running throughout the year.
