Who can apply?
In order to be eligible to apply for the European Green Leaf your city must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- The ‘European Green Leaf’ is open to EU Member States, EU Candidate Countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
- All cities from the countries listed above which have between 20,000 and 100,000 inhabitants at the date of application can apply for a European Green Leaf.
- In this context a “city” is understood to be an urban area and an administrative unit governed by a city council or another form of democratically elected body.
- Previous winners may not apply for a period of three years after they have been awarded a “European Green Leaf”.
