The European Green Capital 2019 and European Green Leaf 2018 Awards Ceremony is on this Friday!

The European Green Capital and European Green Leaf Awards Ceremony is happening on Friday 2 June! The ceremony is taking place in Essen, Germany, current European Green Capital. A live stream of the award ceremony is available here for those unable to attend. The event can be viewed on Friday 2 June from 13:00 CEST (GMT+2).

The shortlisted cities for both awards were announced in April 2017. Ghent (Belgium), Lahti (Finland), Lisbon (Portugal), Oslo (Norway), and Tallinn (Estonia) made it to the final of the European Green Capital Award 2019.EGCA 2019 SHORTLISTED CITIES

The finalists for the European Green Leaf Award 2018 are Leuven (Belgium), Ludwigsburg (Germany), and Växjö (Sweden).

EGL 2018 SHORTLISTED CITIES

This year saw a very high number of applicants for both competitions. European Green Capital shortlisted cities were evaluated by an expert panel based on 12 environmental indicators. The European Green Leaf finalists were assessed by the panel on the basis of 6 environmental topics areas. Next for the shortlisted cities is the presentation to the Jury. On Wednesday 31 May and Thursday 1 June 2017. The jury will make its final decision based on both the quality of this presentation and the expert panel assessments.

The awards ceremony will take place after the morning closing event for EU Green Week, an annual event providing the opportunity for discussion and debate around environmental issues in Europe. EU Green Week 2017 began on Monday 29 May. Events have been taking place in Brussels, with partner events happening throughout Europe. This year’s theme is ‘Green jobs for a greener future’, focusing on the EU’s role in creating sustainable employment.
