Horizon 2020 Workshop: Integration of pollution prevention and control in the industrial permit system of Mediterranean Countries (Seville, 25-26 June 2008)

In accordance with the Horizon 2020 roadmap agreed at Ministerial level in 2006 in Cairo, the European Commission is organising, together with the Regional Activity Centre for Cleaner Production of the Mediterranean Action Plan, a workshop on "Integration of pollution prevention and control in the industrial permit system of Mediterranean countries". The workshop will be held at the premises of the European IPPC Bureau at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies in Seville (Spain) on 25 and 26 June 2008 .

The workshop will aim at informing participants on the advantages and opportunities offered by the application of the IPPC approach in the national systems for controlling industrial pollution, with a special focus on:

  • The application of an integrated permit system for industrial activities: advantages of a single control and environmental permit process as compared to media specific permitting system.
  • The experience with BAT in the permitting process for industrial installations to shift from pollution control to pollution prevention
  • Experiences of Mediterranean countries that are already in the process of implementing IPPC
    The steps for implementing the IPPC system.
  • Case studies on the implementation of BAT/BEP as tool for the Green Competitiveness for Mediterranean industries.
