EMAS Newsletter – Issue 04 / October 2012

Dear EMAS Community,

This autumn is an eventful season for the EMAS community. We reported on four new EMAS registrations: two hotels, Martin’s Central Park in Brussels and Scandic Potsdamer Platz in Berlin; the first EMAS site outside Europe, UPM’s Uruguay pulp mill; and even Ferrari’s Mugello auto race track are all improving their environmental performance with EMAS. Welcome to the EMAS community!

EMAS registered organisations are also actively contributing to a new EMAS Regulation and improved environmental legislation. The European Commission has invited you all to participate in two EMAS-related surveys to help assess how EMAS implementation could be made even easier and more beneficial for organisations (see the two articles below).

And finally, the highlight of the EMAS year are of course the upcoming EMAS Awards 2012! This year’s focus is on Water Management. Registration for the big event is open – so do join us in Brussels on 29 November to applaud the “best of the best” in environmental management.

Enjoy the read!

Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for the Environment
