The Commission, together with the European Investment Bank and the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the EU, held a high-level Conference on 12 and 13 November 2015 in Luxembourg. The theme of the Conference was "The revised EIA Directive – 30 years of legacy and challenges ahead". The Conference provided an opportunity for environmental assessment experts and stakeholders to meet and discuss the introduced amendments in the EIA Directive, benefit from sharing experience, and identify implementation challenges at an early stage and good practice to facilitate its transposition.
The Conference programme included high level plenary speakers (Commissioner Vella, Ms Carole Dieschbourg, Minister of Environment of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, and Mr Jonathan Taylor, EIB Vice-President for Environment and Climate Change), as well as a representative from the Court of Justice of the EU, and high level officials of the Member States. The above speakers took part to a panel discussion on the first day followed by specific sessions.
The Conference also included a wide range of environmental assessment experts from the Member States, industry, NGOs and practitioners. Three technical workshops took place in the first day of the Conference, each being focused on key aspects of the EIA Directive. In the second day, the outcomes of these workshops were summarized and presented as recommendations and guidance to facilitate the transposition of the revised EIA Directive.
