Submit your proposal online using the Electronic Proposal Submission System (EPSS) – the link is now available.
Submission deadline is 9 September at 17:00 Brussels time - Do not wait until the last minute to avoid congestions and delays which could disqualify you.
Good to know: before the deadline the system allows you to upload and modify draft versions of your proposals.

2010 Call published

The 2010 call is now open for projects on materials recycling, sustainable building products, the food and drink sector and green business practices. About 35m€ are available for around 50 projects, that can get 50% of their costs covered. The deadline for submission is 9 September 2010, 17h00 Brussels time! If you are planning to submit a proposal this year, get ahead of the game and consult the call documentation.

Please note that the link to the online proposal submission system EPSS and the guide for proposers will be available May. This news alert will inform you once these upcoming updates are online.

With around 400 participants attending the event and many more following it via web streaming, the CIP Eco-innovation Info Day held in Brussels on 13 April was the perfect opportunity to hear from some of the projects selected for funding under the 2009 call and to get some unique insight into the 2010 funding priorities. Electronic copies of all presentations are now available.

The video recordings of the event will be available shortly on the same page.

Negotiations for the 2008 Call are ongoing

Negotiations for the first CIP Eco-innovation projects are underway. The around 40 projects were selected amongst over 130 proposals submitted last year's call for proposals.
The initiative attracted applications from a large number of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). These account for 75% of all applicants and represent the core target group of the initiative. Recycling was by far the most popular theme.

2008 Call closed - 134 Eco-innovation project proposals received

The first call for proposals closed on 11 September. Thanks to all the 134 project consortia that submitted their proposals for evaluation!
A breakdown of the submissions by priority areas shows as follows: Recycling materials (1/3), Greening business and smart purchasing (1/4), Buildings and construction (1/5), Food and drink sector (~10%), Other areas (~10%).
The call attracted applications from over 30 European countries – led by Italy and Spain – as well as from third countries, with Turkey in the lead. With 330 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, representing around 3/4 of all participants, the SME target group was extremely well represented. The evaluation of the proposals is underway and will end in January 2009.

The workshop will give an outline of the 2009 Call and present the new Waste Framework Directive of the European Commission as well as the proposed Action Plan on Sustainable Consumption and Production and Sustainable Industrial Policy (SCP-SIP).

4th June, Brussels: If you haven't had the chance to attend the European Info Day, you now have a further opportunity to hear about the funding areas of the 2008 Call and practical information on how to apply during the CIP Eco-innovation session which will take place on 4 June, between 10:30 and 12:00, alongside the Green Week event.
The Green Week (Brussels, 3-6 June 2008) will take a closer look at the sustainable use of natural resources, and focus on issues such as resource and waste management, sustainable consumption and production, nature and biodiversity and climate change. €28 million to fund the best eco-innovation projects in Europe

A new funding programme within the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP), Eco-innovation addresses mainly companies – particularly SMEs – that have developed an innovative product, process or service showing clear environmental benefits, but still struggling to succeed in the market. Waste treatment, material recycling, clean construction methods, green procurement are but a few examples of eco-innovative solutions that are potentially targeted under this programme. Covering 40 to 60% of a project eligible cost, Eco-innovation aims at unleashing their replication potential and at broadening their marketability across Europe.

Commission launches consultation on future funding to boost EU competitiveness and innovation

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the successor to the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme 2007-2013 (CIP). The Eco-innovation initiative is part of the CIP, which targets competitiveness beyond research. Main priorities of CIP are SMEs, access to finance, innovation, uptake and use of information and communication technologies (ICT), energy efficiency and renewables. Through the consultation, the public is invited to have its say on what the priorities of future competitiveness and innovation EU funding should be. The consultation will remain open until 4 February 2011.
