Title

Notice of stakeholder meeting on the Final Assessment of the 6th Environment Action Programme

Policy field(s)

Environment

Target group(s)

Stakeholders, general public

Period of consultation

From 28.01.2011 to 08.04.2011

Objective of the consultation

The Decision laying down the 6th EC Environmental Action Programme (6th EAP) was adopted on 22 July 2002 (Decision 1600/2002/EC) covering a period of 10 years.

The 6th EAP sets out environmental priorities for the EU with a strategic focus on four priority policy areas: climate change; nature and biodiversity; health and the quality of life; and natural resources and waste. For each of these priority areas, the 6th EAP sets out specific objectives and priority actions. It addresses also a number of cross-cutting aspects, such as the international dimensions and a policy-making based on broad participation and best available scientific knowledge, thus covering the overall formulation and implementation of environment policies.

A Final Assessment of the 6th EC Environment Action Programme will be presented by the Commission mid 2011. It will be based on the "2010 State and outlook of European environment" (SOER) from the European Environment Agency (EEA), on the results of an external evaluation study, and on the inputs received from all stakeholders.

A stakeholder consultation meeting on the Final Assessment of the 6th EAP will take place in Brussels on 29 March 2011, aiming at collecting the opinion of all stakeholder on the achievement of the 6th EAP objectives, in terms of delivery of the policy commitments (whether through legislation or other instruments), focusing on the added value of the 6th EAP in facilitating the adoption of environment policies and the achievement of environmental goals. This, taking into account the different categories of action in the 6th EAP (e.g. objectives which are process-related; objectives which relate to changing the state of the environment) and the priorities laid down in the 6th EAP.

How to submit your contribution

Those interested in participating in the consultation meeting are invited to confirm their interest by filling a registration form and submitting it before 25 February 2011 via e-mail to ENV-6EAP@ec.europa.eu. Due to the limited capacity of the venue, seats will be allocated in a way to ensure a fair and representative participation of stakeholders. If necessary, invitations will be limited to one individual per organisation and priority will be given to organisations representing the views of stakeholders at EU level.

Participants will be invited to express their views and share ideas on the achievement of the 6EAP objectives, in terms of delivery of the policy commitments (whether through legislation or other instruments), focusing on the added value of the 6EAP in facilitating the adoption of environment policies and the achievement of environmental goals. The meeting will be held with interpretation services in English and French.

Stakeholders will have also the opportunity to submit their views in writing via e-mail to ENV-6EAP@ec.europa.eu before the meeting and up to 8 April 2011.

Received contributions will be published on the Internet. It is important to read the specific privacy statement attached to this consultation for information on how your personal data and contribution will be dealt with.
