Stakeholder consultation - EU initiative on Green Infrastructure

Policy field(s)

Environment, Biodiversity

Target group(s)

All interested parties, preferably organisations representing the views of stakeholders at EU level

Period of consultation

Objective of the consultation

The Communication from the Commission on the options for an EU vision and target for biodiversity beyond 2010 [COM(2010)4] foresees the development of an EU strategy on Green Infrastructure after 2010; and Council Conclusions of March 2010 call for the further elaboration of a concept on Green Infrastructure. The White paper on Climate Change advocates for working with Green Infrastructure. Setting the frame for Green Infrastructure will be an integral part of the upcoming 2020 Biodiversity Strategy. The Commission plans to publish a Communication, informing about the Green Infrastructure concept, and exploring possible ways forward at EU level, inter alia delivering a tool box for implementation, facilitating exchange of practices and integrated planning.

The Commission will establish a Working Group on Green Infrastructure to guarantee an operational set up to provide concrete input to the Commission to assist in the development of the forthcoming EU initiative on Green Infrastructure.

More precisely, in order to have an interactive and dynamic working group, all members are expected to actively contribute to the debate and to the content with their input and expertise on a number of elements or topics in the agenda.

The objective of the consultation is to obtain a representative picture of the positions of relevant stakeholders and to collect the views of the participants on the future initiative.
