Annual and Biennial Reports

In accordance with Article 15(4) of Council Regulation (EC) No 338/97, which implements the requirements of Article VIII(7) (a) and (b) of CITES, Member States are required to submit an "Annual Report" as well as a "Biennial Report".

In the "Annual Report", Member States are required to submit data on all trade in specimens of species covered by the EC Wildlife Trade Regulations, They should provide detailed information on imports into as well as exports and re-exports from the Community that have taken place on the basis of permits and certificates issued by their CITES Management Authorities.

In addition to the compilation of the annual reports, the European Commission has started to publish an analysis of the annual reports, the so-called "Yearbook". This analysis provides an overview of the state of play and trends in trade.

In the "Biennial Report", the Member States are required to submit information on legislative, regulatory and administrative measures they have adopted to implement and enforce the regulations including information on seized and confiscated shipments.
