The Commission is assisted in its work by the Committee on Trade in Wild Fauna and Flora composed of representatives from Member State Management Authorities and chaired by the Commission (Article 18 of Council Regulation (EC) No 338/97). Many of the Articles of the Regulation refer to implementation measures to be adopted by the Commission in accordance with the Committee’s procedures. Proposals for such measures require a positive opinion established by a ‘qualified majority’ from the Committee. If the Committee is unable to give a positive opinion, the Commission must immediately submit its proposal to the Council.
The Committee meets between three and four times a year in Brussels.
