The European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing, EPAA

Launched in 2005, the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing, EPAA, is an unprecedented voluntary collaboration between the European Commission, European trade associations, and companies from seven industry sectors. The partners are committed to pooling knowledge and resources to accelerate the development, validation and acceptance of alternative approaches to further the "Three Rs" in regulatory testing. The mission of EPAA is to:

  • Promote the development, validation and implementation of alternative approaches, including novel test methods and integrated testing strategies;
  • Enhance the acceptance, harmonization and mutual recognition of tests by regulators at national, European and international levels;
  • Foster knowledge sharing among the partners on the implementation of the “Three Rs”;
  • Provide a mechanism for dialogue and communication with key stakeholders on developments that effectively contribute to animal welfare.
