The Turkish national competition is held every two years.

The Turkish National Competition

The winners of the 2015 European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE) Turkish National Scheme were announced during a prestigious ceremony held in Ankara on 22 June 2015.

The awards ceremony, organised by the national focal point of the Programme -the Regional Environmental Center (REC)- together with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), attracted over 100 attendees representing business, institutions, academia and media. Amongst them were the Undersecretary of the Ministry for European Union Affairs Ambassador Rauf Engin Soysal, the Deputy Undersecretary of the Environment and Urbanisation and Chief Negotiator for Climate Change Prof Dr Mehmet Emin Birpınar, the REC Turkey and the EBAE Turkish National Coordinator Rifat Unal Sayman, and the Vice President and Accountant Member of the Board of Directors of TOBB Faik Yavuz.

The awards were given in three categories: management, product/service, and process.


Management Category
Winner: Eczacıbaşı (VitrA)
Showing great success, Eczacıbaşı was the winner in this category for both the 2014-2015 national as well as the European awards. As part of their company philosophy of giving back to society, Eczacıbaşı has been on the forefront of global sustainability initiatives. In 2010, it launched the Blue Life Integrated Sustainability Management System initative which measures, reports and improves the sustainability credentials of all Eczacıbaşı business processes. The results have been an impressive 3.7 million m³ of natural gas and 7.2 thousand tons of raw material saved each year, as well as the prevention of 118 tons of CO2 emissions.

Product/Service Category
Winner: Arçelik
Arçelik, one of the biggest home appliance producers in Turkey, with its Energy Efficient Compressor – STU project, successfully produced a refrigeration compressor that surpasses the global energy efficiency standards. The STU series that integrate the compressor necessitates significantly less energy consumption, thereby reducing the production of greenhouse gases.


Process Category
Winner: Tüpraş
Tüpraş successfully developed an alternative to the conventional methods of dissolved oxygen removal from vessel feed water. The process, the first of its kind in the world, integrates a membrane dearator system which utilises the waste heat resources in the maximum level possible, resulting in economic gains and environmental improvements.
