National Competition in Spain:
Sección Española de los Premios Europeos de Medio Ambiente

The EBAE competition in Spain is organised and promoted since 1997 by the Fundacion Entorno, the Spanish network of the World Business Council, known for its long experience working with business leaders, addressing sustainable development challenges as business opportunities.

While the same four EBAE categories are used, the Spanish competition included an additional category: Sustainable Communication, rewarding businesses which stand out for transparency in their dialogue with stakeholders.

The national Jury is composed of a panel of environmental experts from the Industry and Environmental Ministries, regional authorities, trade union, academia and NGOs.

Which companies are eligible?
The Premios Europeos de Medio Ambiente are designed to recognise and promote companies which make an outstanding contribution to sustainable development. The awards highlight policies, practices, processes and products from all sectors of business in Spain which help to achieve economic and social development without detriment to the environment and natural resources upon the quality of which continued human activity and further development depend.

Last edition: 2009/2010
The 2009-2010´s edition received 110 projects competed. More than 350 people from business, academia and different organisations attended the ceremony in March 2010, which received wide TV and written media coverage. Ms Cristina Garcia-Orcoyen, Chief Executive of Fundacion Entorno-BCSD Spain, was President of both the Spanish and European juries this year and highlighted the quality of Spanish projects competing in Europe, including Ferrovial – winner of the International Co-operation Category.
