Philipp Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg, 37 years old, lives with his wife and their three common children near the Chiemsee in Bavaria. Previously the family had spent nearly ten years in their adopted country Austria, in which Philipp zu Guttenberg is managing a forest holding of 4,000 hectare with a high proportion of difficult mountain forestry. In Germany the own lands comprise total approximately 1,000 acres in Upper Franconia and Hesse.

After graduation in 1993 he moved to Scotland. He studied ecology with a focus on forestry in Edinburgh. After the successful completion of the first study a further study was followed by completion of a Masters of Forestry in Aberdeen.

Six years he represented, inter alia as chairman, the representative organization of the Styrian agriculture & forestry holdings and was a functionary of the Styrian Chamber of Agriculture.

Two years ago he was elected to the board of Bavarian Forest Owners Association. As Vice President of European Forest Owners Association (CEPF) he represents there Austrian interests and case by case interests of AGDW.
