A study has been launched by DG Environment in the framework of the review of the large combustion Plants Directive. The objective of this study is to contribute to the implementation of the preparation of the review of Directive 2001/80/EC. This review will include an assessment of:

  • the need for further measures
  • the amounts of heavy metals emitted by the LCP's
  • the cost-effectiveness and costs and advantages of further emission reductions in the combustion plants sector compared to other sector
  • the technical and economic feasibility of such emission reductions
  • the effects of both the standards set for the LCP's sector including the provisions for indigenous solid fuels, and the competition situation in the energy market, on the environment and internal market.

The work has been launched end-2003, the final report is expected before end-2004. More information can be found on the emission pages.
