EU funding

Promoting growth and creating new jobs in the European economy – and it is SMEs which play the biggest role in realising these ambitions – is at the heart of the EU’s main funding programmes. There are many opportunities available within the range of programmes, and this tool aims to help SMEs to find the ones which are most appropriate to their individual situation. It provides quick and easy access to information on opportunities within all the main EU programmes relevant to SMEs.

Whilst the Commission has made every effort to ensure the information within this tool is correct, users planning to make a funding application should cross-check with the information provided on the programme’s own webpages – linked from within this tool.

Users should also note that the tool includes the main EU programmes of relevance to SMEs. Other programmes and initiatives run by the Commission, as well as individual calls for tender, although not specifically intended for SMEs may also have opportunities for small firms to obtain funding.

On-line tool for SME funding

This on-line tool provides a simple means for SMEs to identify the European Commission funding instruments which could help their business. It explains the different programmes, their aims and the types of activity each supports. It also gives links to detailed information and contacts for further information and assistance in each EU Member State.

EU loans for SMEs

The EU supports financing for SMEs to help their business start up or develop. This dedicated multilingual site helps SMEs apply for loan finance guaranteed by the European Commission’s Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP). It includes information on the financial instruments available in each Member State and the local intermediaries to contact.

EU finance days for SMEs

The European Commission is organising an EU Finance Day for SMEs in each Member States to inform participants about the EU financial instruments for SMEs, and the local financial intermediaries through which SMEs can access these instruments. The aim is to raise awareness of the different sources of finance and provide a forum for sharing good practices in helping innovative SMEs access finance more easily. One-day events will be organised in all Member State capitals in 2008-09.

The Your Europe – Business portal

This portal offers practical multilingual information and access to online government services for companies looking to do business in another EU country. The information includes rights, obligations and administrative procedures related to business life events. Should specific problems arise, the portal also steers users to local business organisations where they can get personalised help and advice. The Your Europe Business is jointly provided by the European Commission and national authorities. A totally new version of the portal was launched in November 2008.
