Tourism quality and sustainability vis-à-vis demand trends
18-19 September 2008 - Bordeaux, FRANCE
The European Tourism Forum 2008 was organised by the European Commission in collaboration with the French Presidency, and was held in Bordeaux (Amphithéâtre du Casino Bordeaux) on 18-19 September, 2008.
The selected theme was "The European Tourism Offer: Quality and Sustainability vis-à-vis Demand Trends".
Three sub-themes were proposed for the three consecutive panels, namely "Europe's Adaptability to World Tourism Demand Trends", "Integrating Competitiveness and Sustainability Criteria in the Adaptation of the European Tourism Offer" and "Facilitating the Adaptation of EU Quality Tourism Jobs".



The forum, including the EDEN Awards, was web-streamed live on the 18th and 19th September, thus giving home/office viewers an opportunity to follow the debate alongside those delegates present in Bordeaux. Records of the event are now available:

An opening reception was held on 17 September, alongside the opening of the EDEN Exhibition, whilst a full day programme including the EDEN Awards Ceremony and an informal ministerial meeting has taken place on 18 September. The third Forum panel and Closing Session has taken place on 19 September.
Vice President Verheugen and a number of invited Ministers/State Secretaries of Tourism from Member States participated to the Forum, giving political orientations during the informal ministerial meeting that has been proposed by the French Presidency on 18 September.
