The Nature Park of the Upper Sûre
The Nature Park of the Upper Sûre is located in the North-Western part of Luxembourg close to the Belgian border. The park is primarily an area of conservation and a specially protected area for wild birds. At the heart of the park is the Upper Sûre Lake, the largest area of water in Luxembourg which provides 70% of the population with drinking water. Water activities are allowed on most of the lake, and the rivers are popular with canoeists. A great way to discover the area is to make a boat-trip on the dammed lake Upper Sûre with a solar powered boat.
Recreation area and nature reserve "Haff Réimech", Commune of Schengen
The Commune of Schengen is located in the southern part of Luxembourg. In 2009, it was awarded the title of European Tourist Destination of Excellence in protected areas. The peaceful Commune of Schengen is comprised of three villages, Remerschen, Schengen and Wintrage. In 1995, the Schengen Treaty was signed to allow the free circulation of goods, services and people among signing countries and has been adopted by the end of 2008 by 25 European countries. While the area is known for its forward-thinking, it is also a region of tremendous wineries. The region's rich soils and lush, story-book landscapes are other reasons each year to draw visitors throughout the world.
Echternach is located in eastern Luxembourg. In 2008, it was awarded the title of European Tourist Destination of Excellence in Intangible Heritage. Echternach’s vivid dancing procession, which has been held for the last 500 years, is just one convincing reason for paying the Luxembourgish city a visit. Echternach puts itself forward for its themed walks through a scenic mountainous landscape and for highlighting the area’s cultural heritage.
