The EDEN project aims to create a platform for exchanging good practices at European level and promoting networking between award-winning destinations, thereby persuading other destinations to adopt sustainable tourism development models.
The Commission invited the participating countries to work on the Action Plan for the Network of EDEN destinations for the coming years. Setting the aims and objectives will help to create a basis for the actions that need to be carried out in the future.
Members of the network
The original members of the network are the 30 winning destinations from the first two editions of the EDEN project. They were invited to sign a memorandum of understanding – the so called “ Declaration on a European Network of Destinations of Excellence for Sustainable Tourism [17 KB] ” – on 7 October 2008 during the European Day of Tourism in Brussels. By signing the Declaration, the members officially committed themselves to collaborating with each other and to guaranteeing constant exchanges of information and knowledge on tourism development.
Other destinations, winners of future editions and runners-ups of EDEN projects, which have proved deserving of recognition for their effort in promoting sustainable tourism during the national selections, will be invited to join the network, following indications of the relevant participating countries.
