European Tourism Day - Industrial heritage : differentiating the European tourism offer, Brussels, 27 September 2011

Former brewery Wielemans-Ceuppens, now an art exhibition center.

The conference discussed how the preservation and promotion of European industrial heritage could help diversify European tourism and provide jobs in former industrial areas.

Items discussed (panels):

  • Industrial tourism strategies and international key players
  • Industrial heritage promotion and new tourism solutions
  • Industrial tourism: local development and sustainable policies
  • Industrial tourism: local development: "niche" markets and innovative tourism products.

There was also a presentation of the projects selected for the 2011 European Destinations of Excellence category "Tourism and Regeneration of Physical Sites".
