Commission Decision of 29 August 2005 [32 KB] concerning essential requirements as referred to in Directive 1999/5/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council ensuring access of Cospas-Sarsat locator beacons to emergency services.

Please note that this Decision lays down additional requirements to be met by Cospas-Sarsat beacons. It does not oblige Member States to allow their use on national territory nor does it oblige Member States to react to distress calls from Cospas-Sarsat beacons. Manufacturers should clarify in the documentation with their product any restrictions of use and are advised to inform users, in which Member States emergency services will react to distress calls.
