defines the rules for the placing on the market and putting into service of Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment.

Guidance

A Guide pdf - 370 KB [370 KB] is available to assist with the common application of Directive 1999/5/EC. It has no weight in law but deals with a number of practical issues that will be of interest to manufacturers and other stakeholders.

Standardisation

The easiest route to demonstrate compliance of equipment with the Directive is to have the equipment comply with the related Harmonized Standard. For this Directive Harmonized Standards are developed mostly by ETSI. Some safety and health standards are developed by CENELEC. These standards are developed upon a request from the European Commission and they enter to force when their references are published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).

Notified Bodies

When the manufacturer did not use Harmonized Standard, or when they do not exist, it must present its technical demonstration to a notified body, which will review it.
