Open Day on Advanced Materials - 25 October 2010

In the framework of the ongoing work of the High-Level Expert Group on Key Enabling Technologies, this Open Day was organised by the Working Group on Advanced Materials Technologies in order to consult a broad stakeholder audience on the needs and challenges of the sector, contributing to the development of appropriate policy measures to promote the industrial deployment of KETs.

Advanced Materials technologies are important contributors in many value chains serving leading edge applications. The European Commission has recognized this and included Advanced Materials in the list of 6 technology domains that are expected to – if managed wisely and proactively – enable, safeguard and stimulate future industrial activity in Europe. Within the context of the High Level Group on Key Enabling Technologies a working group is collecting information that will lead to policy recommendations aimed at reinforcing the European advanced materials industry.

Therefore, it is clearly stated that the deliverables of the High Level Group on Key Enabling Technologies are policy recommendations. Speakers representing organisations of producers of advanced materials (morning session) and organisations of users of advanced materials (afternoon session) commented on policies and support mechanisms that they consider instrumental in strengthening the position of the advanced materials industry and of value chains with high advanced materials content in Europe.
