The European Union has strong economic relationships with numerous candidate countries.
From the candidate countries, Turkey is among the top 10 EU-27 furniture suppliers (4.7% in value of EU-27 imports of furniture in 2007). Croatia is among the 10 main markets for EU furniture.
The European Commission has funded the FACTS II project to help address critical problems that Turkey and Croatia have in the wood working and furniture sectors. Bulgaria and Romania also took part to the project before their accession to the EU. The project provides advice to furniture manufacturers on how to comply with the EU acquis, in particular health and safety, environmental and chemical legislation. Furthermore, it provides for networking possibilities between companies and associations. It follows a previous furniture funded project (FACTS I).
