High Level Group on Competitiveness
From 2008 to 2010, the High Level Group on the Competitiveness of the Agro-Food Industry [19 KB] analysed the factors influencing the competitiveness of the European food industry. In 2009, the Group put forward a roadmap of key initiatives to boost the competitiveness of the sector.
Final Report, Recommendations and Roadmap
On 17 March 2009, the High Level Group on the Competitiveness of the Agro-Food Industry adopted its final report including 30 recommendations. On 6 July 2009 the Group endorsed the Roadmap of Key Initiatives proposing implementing actions for the 30 recommendations.

Composition and mandate
The Group was composed of representatives of selected Member States, of the European agro-food industry, of professional associations and of civil society, working together under the chairmanship of the European Commission.
The mandate of the High Level Group was:
- to address those issues that determine and will determine the future competitiveness of the European agro-food industry;
- to identify the factors influencing the competitive position and sustainability of the European agro-food industry, including future challenges and trends likely to impact on competitiveness;
- to formulate a set of sector-specific recommendations addressed to policy makers at EU level.
The Group was launched in 2008. In 2010, the Commission put an end to its mandate and established the High Level Forum for a Better Functioning Food Supply Chain to follow the implementation of its recommendations.
