List of clusters and regional networks

  • Clusters are geographic groups of inter-related businesses that share specialised infrastructure, labour markets and services. Such concentrations of companies specialized in specific technologies, suppliers, service providers, and research institutes boost the productivity of these actors, according the economic research.
  • Networks are systems linking inter-connected businesses, academia or clusters that are not necessarily located in the same region but can benefit from a collaboration.

By providing this list of clusters and networks, the Commission aims to facilitate for those who wish to establish new contacts and set up new cooperative projects. A number of the websites mentioned below offer specialized networking facilities in Europe. Although most of those organisations may be active on an international playing field, their home region has been indicated for your ease of reference.

A network active at the European level is the Council of European BioRegions (CEBR). It promotes the cooperation between clusters and bio-communities at the European level through services such as networking, training, incubation, partnering, cluster promotion, and assistance with the coordination of applications for FP7 and CIP projects.

The following is an informal and non-exhaustive list of Europe's biotechnology clusters and networks based on currently available information.
It is provided for information purposes only. It may be amended or modified in the future.
