Community strategy to reduce CO₂emissions from cars
The aim of the Regulation on CO2 and cars (under the responsibility of the Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action) is capping CO2 emissions in line with the growing concern about the climate change.
The Regulation was agreed in December 2008 and currently the related measures such as monitoring measures, eco-innovations, vehicle test procedure, CO2 labelling, 2020 target are being elaborated.
As a result of the regulation, the EU car manufacturers' fleet average has to be aligned with 130g CO2/km - partially as of 2012 and completely by 2015.
In addition, the integrated approach measures (e.g. eco-innovations) should bring the average emission to 120g CO2/km.
