European Parliament questions on CSR

European Parliament

In accordance with the parliamentary supervision of the Commission and Council, the Members of European Parliament (MEPs) can address to us official questions concerning a specific subject.

The European Parliament publishes the questions asked by each MEP, along with the answer.  Here we have put together in one place the questions and answers that concern corporate social responsibility.

Mr. Désir asks about the next steps that the Commission will take regarding the recognition of the legal personality of a group of companies in the event of violations of fundamental rights and the environment, as well as the obligation for all parent companies to report annually on the social and environmental impact of their action.

Following the speech of Vice-President Antonio Tajani to the United Nations stating the EU’s ambition to play a central role and take the lead in promoting CSR at global level, Mr. Jáuregui asks about the next steps that the Commission will take.

 

 

Subject: "Corporate social responsibility, individual rights at the workplace and consumer behaviour"

In view of the suicides in China among the staff of Foxconn, a company supplying computer components to a large number of multinationals which have plant in the EU and naturally supply the European market with their products, Mr. Poupakis asks about the measures that the Commission will take in order to stimulate the responsible behaviour of companies.

Mr. Canfin asks about the response and the actions that the Commission will take with regard to the activities of some companies like ArcelorMittal in South Africa, which according to some sources have had a harmful impact on the lives of people and the environment.

 

 

Subject: "The Social Enterprise in EU"

MEP: Georgios Papastamkos
Party: Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats)

Mr. Papastamkos asks the Commission about its strategy regarding the Social Enterprise and its concern with regard to companies who operate on a socially responsible basis, in order to make a profit.
