GMES land monitoring service

The GMES Land Monitoring Core Service (LMCS) builds on the foundations established through existing Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) and European Space Agency (ESA) initiatives, in particular the FP6 project geoland pdf - 98 KB [98 KB] , Boss4GMES pdf - 73 KB [73 KB] , and the ESA GMES Service Element.

The LMCS has three components: local, continental and global. Within each component, some elements are currently operational, or will become pre-operational in the coming years. These elements are listed below, together with a description of the nature of the products foreseen and an indicative timetable for their delivery:

Local component: Urban Atlas (operational products to be made available 2009 - 2011) implemented through a separate call for tender.
Continental component: Land Cover and Changes 2006, high resolution soil sealing layer, and high resolution forest layer (European Topic Centre on Land Use and Spatial Information).
Global, continental and local components (pre-operational): the project geoland2 - Implementation of the Land Service [5 MB] .
