The EU is now moving forward rapidly on the development of its European Space Policy, including appropriate framework conditions allowing European space companies to tackle global markets from a position of strength. The EU is also providing an important economic stimulus, not just in terms of funding for research and programmes, but by increasingly using space as a tool in the implementation of its policy objectives, becoming a key institutional partner and customer.
The Communication on European Space Policy on 26 April 2007 followed a series of important and groundbreaking initiatives that have brought the European space sector closer together, linking the EU and the European Space Agency (ESA) in close association and bringing in industrial players, other space stakeholders and end users.
