Public procurement legislation - current directives and their implementation
The package of public procurement directives adopted in 2004 is designed to reduce the administrative burden and costs related to tendering, make procurement systems more transparent and easier for SMEs to access and to encourage the use of information technology systems (e-procurement) to simplify the process.

The objective of this compendium is to allow Member States and their contracting authorities to fully exploit the potential of the Public Procurement Directives in order to ensure a level playing field for all economic operators wishing to participate in public tendering.
