Many ambitious initiatives have been launched to achieve better regulation:
In 2002 the Commission introduced a new method of integrated impact assessment, which built on and replaced the previous single-sector assessments, including the Business Impact Assessment (BIA) developed by DG Enterprise.

The European Commission has set up a group of national regulatory experts, who will advise the Commission on its general strategy to simplify and improve European legislation and to facilitate the development of better regulation measures at both national and EU level.
The European Commission financed the peer review of all its Member States by the OECD from 2005 to 2010 in order to assess trends in regulatory practices and recommend how to bridge gaps in relation to good practice.
