Information
On Tuesday, 11 June 2013, the European Commission Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry hosted a seminar in Lithuania at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania in Vilnius on the issue of late payment and the application of a new European directive to tackle the problem.
This directive is an important legal development for businesses, particularly SMEs, and public authorities in Lithuania and across the EU. It puts in place strict time-lines and tough penalties for payment between businesses, and between businesses and public authorities.
The seminar provided participants with an opportunity to learn more about the problem of late payment and the new measures being put in place to address the issue.
It included presentations from: Mr. Marius Skarupskas, Vice-Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania; Mr. Antti Peltomäki, Deputy Director-General of the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General; Ms. Idaira Robayna Alfonso, Legal Officer, Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry; Ms. Aurelija Nemickaitė, National Expert on Late Payment, Lithuania; Ms. Madeleine Bosch, Group Marketing Manager, Intrum Justitia; and Mr. Josef Busuttil, Vice-President of the Federation of European Credit Management Associations.
This campaign is funded by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enterprise & Industry and is part of the European Commission’s ongoing commitment to promoting economic growth and European business.
