On Friday, 24 May 2013, the European Commission Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry hosted a seminar in Croatia at the Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb on the issue of late payment and the application of a new European directive to tackle the problem.

This directive is an important legal development for businesses, particularly SMEs, and public authorities in Croatia and across the EU. It puts in place strict time-lines and tough penalties for payment between businesses, and between businesses and public authorities.

The seminar provided participants with an opportunity to learn more about the problem of late payment and the new measures being put in place to address the issue.

It included presentations from: Mr. Richard Masa, Head of Operations Section in Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Croatia; Mr. Slavko Linić – Minister of Finance; Mr. Gordan Maras - Minister for Entrepreneurship and Trade; Mr. Kristian Johansen, Seconded National Expert, Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry, European Commission; Ms. Madeleine Bosch, Intrum Justitia; Ms Anđa Redžić, Croatian National Expert; Mr. Maciej Górka, Head of Unit, Product, Market, Integration, and Enforcement; Mrs. Admira Ribičić: Legal Advisor, Croatian Employers` Association; Mr. Darko Liović: President of HAMAG INVEST Management Board; Mrs. Sanja Želinski Matunec: Department for Economy and International Cooperation, Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts; Mrs. Ilda Stanojević: Assistant to the President of the Croatian Association of Cooperatives; and Mr. Boris Lalovac, Deputy Minister of Finance.
