European project CluStrat - Boosting innovation through new cluster concepts in support of emerging issues and cross-sectoral themes
CluStrat aims at maintaining and improving the competitiveness of clusters in the CENTRAL EUROPE co-operation area, by developing new strategic policy approaches on how to render clusters even more capable to face and live up to the challenges posed by new markets. A strategy on new cluster concepts in support of emerging economic sectors, cross-technologies and cross-sectoral themes will be developed and tested in pilot actions.
In the strategy development challenges and potentials for clusters, which will be coming up through emerging markets will be focused. Key topic is linking traditional clusters with emerging industries. Furthermore crosscutting issues like gender in innovation, technology/knowledge transfer and internationalisation will be analyzed.
CluStrat is the only project called for and approved in the recent strategic call for project proposals in the INTERREG IVB CENTRAL EUROPE programme under the funding priority Innovation. 18 partners and 7 associated institutions from 8 countries in Central Europe and Ukraine will work together for three years, from October 2011 onwards.
On 14 December 2011 the opening conference of the CluStrat project took place with about 80 participants. Besides the conference the first CluStrat policy dialogue was scheduled. The CluStrat policy dialogue is the main instrument of the CluStrat project. In the dialogues the project partners have the opportunity to discuss with policy makers and develop in a joint effort the strategy for new cluster concepts for Central Europe. In the first transnational policy dialogue about 50 representatives of the different Central Europe regions reached a consensus on the markets and topics which will be in future focus of the project: active aging, sustainable development/green economy and sustainable/ intelligent mobility.
Project duration: 10/2011 - 09/2014
Involved countries: Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and Ukraine.
