On 24th November 2011, approximately one year after the adoption by the Commission of the Europe 2020 flagship initiative on industrial policy, DG ENTR organised a high-level conference "Delivering an Integrated Industrial Policy for the Globalisation Era".

The conference, opened by Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani, allowed for an important exchange of views among policy-makers (including three Member States' ministers), business leaders and academics on the state of EU industry, on the challenges it faces and the necessary policy responses by the EU institutions and Member States to reinforce industry's competitiveness.

Three panels, each moderated by a Member of the European Parliament that was hosting the event, examined in detail European industry's opportunities in globalisation, the role of Member States in enhancing industrial competitiveness and the importance of establishing a comprehensive industrial innovation policy.

The debates at the conference highlighted important themes and practices and will feed on the review of the Industrial Policy flagship initiative, which the Commission intends to adopt in September 2012.
