| The central feature of the new industrial policy for the European pharmaceutical sector is the new Pharmaceutical Forum. The main role of the Forum is to provide strategic direction to the different work streams of the new strategy. It is designed to provide a political mandate and momentum for the process and a senior platform for discussion on competitiveness and related public health issues.The Forum will be chaired jointly by Vice-President Verheugen for Enterprise and Industry and Commissioner Kyprianou for Public Health and Consumer Protection. The Forum will consist of Ministers from Member States, representatives of the European Parliament and senior representatives from key stakeholder groups. The Forum will meet once a year and the first meeting is planned for the first half of 2006. We expect the exact membership, scope and timing of the Forum to be agreed shortly. In its initial setup the Forum will focus on tree areas which have been indicated by the G10 Highlevel Group, but for which additional reflection is required before implementation: |
