�Ms or Mr SME�: Small business gets an advocate in each EU Member State
Newly appointed Ms or Mr SME will advocate for the interests of Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Newly appointed Ms or Mr SME will advocate for the interests of Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs). Chiefly they will check the correct application of the EU law on SMEs and ensure that policies at national, regional and local level are enterprise friendly.

Today, European Commission Vice President Antonio Tajani inaugurated a new network of Member States' SME Envoys at the SBA conference �Mobilising SMEs for the Future of Europe� in Budapest.

As SMEs are affected by policies originating in different government departments ranging from tax to financial and from regulatory to education, the SME envoys should help small businesses to concentrate on their core business to strive and create jobs.

5th European Enterprise Awards: Barcelona wins for Job Creation Initiative

 
Vice-President Antonio Tajani announced the winner of the 5th edition of the European Enterprise Awards ceremony in Budapest on 24 May 2011.

Vice-President Antonio Tajani announced the winner of the 5th edition of the European Enterprise Awards ceremony in Budapest on 24 May 2011. The entrepreneurship centre of the Barcelona Council, Activa was awarded the Grand Jury Prize selected for its innovative entrepreneurial support and training actions leading to the creation of 6,214 new businesses and 11,800 jobs. Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Turkey also received prizes for driving enterprise with new and creative local solutions. These prices are a recognition for a successful and innovative way of promoting entrepreneurship.

The Commission consults stakeholders on ideas for a more coherent approach to public support for EU enterprises to successfully do business outside the EU. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) need assistance when taking first steps to internationalise their business. While significant public resources are already devoted to SME support and a number of organisations and programmes exist at various levels, their impact can be increased by greater visibility and more effective cooperation. We propose a mapping of existing services and certain principles and priorities to guide future actions.

The new rules will strike the right balance between promoting creation and innovation, in part by ensuring reward and investment for creators and, on the other hand, promoting the widest possible access to goods and services protected by IPR. Getting this balance right will make a real difference to businesses (from the individual artist working alone to the big pharmaceutical companies) by encouraging investment in innovation.
