Bright vision for tourist season 2011
Increasing number of Europeans enjoy their holidays: 68% of EU citizens travelled for private reasons in 2010 compared to 65% in 2009. These findings of a new Eurobarometer survey on the attitudes of Europeans towards tourism confirm other indicators that tourism has recovered from economic crisis.

Increasing number of Europeans enjoy their holidays: 68% of EU citizens travelled for private reasons in 2010 compared to 65% in 2009. These findings of a new Eurobarometer survey on the attitudes of Europeans towards tourism confirm other indicators that tourism has recovered from economic crisis. Preference still inclines towards traditional tourist destinations (58%), while 28% would like to discover emerging destinations. European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani presented today the Eurobarometer at the European Tourism Stakeholders Conference organised by the Hungarian Presidency and the European Commission in Budapest.

Mediterranean: Unleashing mass scale entrepreneurial activity for stabilization and jobs

The democratic uprisings that occurred in the Mediterranean area and the rightful claims of young people for jobs and a better future in these countries have made it clear that the EU needs to offer greater support to the region. At the 8th Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting on Industry in Malta on 12 May 2011 European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani launched a set of far reaching proposals for the progressive integration of markets between the EU and the Mediterranean as well as the setting up of a Small Business Act (SBA). It should help to unleash grass roots entrepreneurship at a mass scale to build dynamic and vivid economies in the neighbour countries.

Launch of SME Week 2011

The yearly European SME Week is a pan-European campaign designed to promote and support entrepreneurship. It showcases the support available to business at European, national, regional and local level. At events SMEs and micro-firms share experiences and develop their businesses. There is also a special focus on promoting entrepreneurship as a career option, especially for younger people. The registration of events for the European SME Week 2011 has started and will be open until 30 November 2011.

The first phase of a EUR 600 million public-private partnership on the Internet of the Future (FI-PPP) was launched on 03 May 2011. The partnership will support innovation in Europe and help businesses and governments to develop internet solutions that will be capable of managing the exponential increase in online data. Whilst so far we have experienced the Internet of connected computers, and connected people, the Internet is now going mobile and it will connect a whole range of machines and objects.

Twelve projects for the 2012 Single Market: together for new growth

The Single Market's growth potential has not yet been fully exploited, despite the progress made since it was created in 1992. The Single Market must therefore open the doors to new, greener and more inclusive growth. The Single Market Act adopted on 13 April 2011 by the European Commission aims to deliver twelve projects on which to relaunch the Single Market for 2012 ranging from worker mobility to SME finance.
