EU economic governance: Commission sets the yearly priorities for EU growth
EU economic governance: Commission sets the yearly priorities for EU growth

Europe has a comprehensive plan to respond to the crisis and to speed up Europe's economic growth. It now needs to focus its efforts in a coordinated manner and with an eye on priorities. That is what the Commission is presenting today. The Annual Growth Survey charts a clear direction on where Europe should be heading in the next year, with ten pressing actions focussed on macro-economic stability and fiscal consolidation, structural reforms and growth-enhancing measures. Classification is essential to determine whether a chemical is dangerous for health and the environment, and will determine the information on the labels of chemicals that workers and consumers use. The data will enable ECHA to establish the first European inventory of hazardous substances and harmonised classifications.

Commission welcomes decision by European Parliament and Council to repeal eight outdated metrology directives

European Commission Vice President Antonio Tajani welcomes the European Parliament's decision to repeal eight metrology directives. The reason to repeal the legal acts is that they are no longer necessary, technically outdated and/or applied more seldom, as in the case of the directive on weights for use on non-automatic weighing scales. The directives were laid out in the 1970s with the aim of harmonising legislation at a time when the different legislation of Member States constituted barriers to trade within the internal market.
