30 November 2010: Last call for companies to register chemicals

The Commission reminds companies that they must register the most widely used or most dangerous chemicals by the deadline of 30 November this year, less than 12 weeks from now. Registration is one of the milestones of REACH, the EU Regulation on chemicals and their safe use Companies are also reminded that they must notify the Classification and Labelling of their chemicals to European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) by 3 January next year.

New Regulation proposed on tractors to strengthen safety and to cut red tape

The European Commission has proposed to simplify EU law on agricultural and forestry vehicles (tractors, trailers and towed equipment): 50 Directives and the related implementing legislation of 27 Member States would be replaced by just five Regulations. The proposal also foresees increased safety for these vehicles.

With EUR 99 million, the fourth space call will therefore focus on ensuring the continuity of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) operational services, and support research on space exploration technologies and ways to protect the Earth from potentially devastating asteroid impacts under the Strengthening Space Foundations (SSF) theme.

�6.4 billion for smart growth and jobs � Europe's biggest ever investment in research and innovation

The European Commission will invest EUR 6,4 bn in research and innovation. This funding will advance scientific boundaries, increase European competitiveness and help solve societal challenges such as climate change, energy and food security, health and an ageing population. Around 16,000 participants from research organisations, including about 3,000 SMEs, will receive funding.
