European Commission Vice President Antonio Tajani, Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship, said: The sector has been severely impacted by the recent crisis.
The Commission has set up a new expert group: the Expert Group on Forest-based Industries and Sectorally Related Issues.
The group will be instrumental in implementing the new strategy for the EU Forest-based Industries for the period 2014-20 to boost the competitiveness of woodworking, furniture, paper and printing sectors in Europe. It will provide a forum for consultation, discussion and co-operation between the Commission, Member States, and a broad range of sectoral stakeholders active in the entire value chain from the industry and civil society.
The group will thus play a key role in implementing the new EU sectoral strategy to reverse the negative trends. The first meeting of the new group is planned after the summer break. Details of the group’s meetings, including agendas and meeting reports, and membership will be published on the Commission’s Register of Expert Groups and Forest-based Industries website.
