This workshop presented the outcomes of the first test of the European Tourism Indicators System for Sustainable Management at Destination Level , highlighting the positive experiences and the difficulties encountered with a view to start a debate of possible future steps to develop and improve the system.
The European Commission has developed ETIS, the European Tourism Indicators System for Sustainable Management at Destination Level. This tool is designed to help tourism destinations to monitor, manage, measure and enhance their sustainability performances, without the need of any specific training.
The workshop presented the outcomes of the first phase of testing:
- clarifying what the system could achieve,
- showing the positive experiences and/or the difficulties encountered by the destinations involved and
- presenting the future steps to develop and improve ETIS.
In addition the workshop was an opportunity for networking between the destinations, looking forward for future benchmarking.
