Science, research and innovation are clearly at the heart of the EXPO Milano 2015 theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life".
The European Commission and the European Parliament have therefore set up a high-level expert group to steer the policy debate on the research and innovation options to meet the global challenge of food security. Under the chair of former Commissioner for Agriculture, Franz Fischler, the ten members of the EU Steering Committee for EXPO 2015 will advise on the definition and implementation of the EU scientific programme in line with the EXPO theme. Tomorrow, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, will open the first meeting of the expert group together with Vladimír Šucha, Director General of the Joint Research Centre. The Commission's in-house science service coordinates the EU participation in the world exposition taking place in Milan from 1 May to 31 October 2015. More information is available on the EU EXPO website.
