Study on the economic impact of short stay visa facilitation on the tourism industry Publicēts: 17/10/2013
Applying for a Schengen visa is sometimes difficult and many potential tourists can be deterred from travelling to Europe. According to this study, a total of 6.6 million potential travellers were lost in 2012 due to the Schengen visa regime.
The study commissioned by the European Commission aims at evaluating how the common visa provisions are implemented in the Schengen area from the tourism industry/travellers' viewpoint. Then it makes an assessment of the impact that a facilitation of the visa procedure may have on the European tourism industry and overall economy.
The report furthermore proposes solutions to identified problems, suggests good practices and makes policy recommendations based on the evidence collected.
