As the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7, 2007– 2013) heads towards its expiration, so does the Security Research theme within FP7.
While Europe is being steadily confronted with new security challenges to its society and economic well being, Security Research is an important business enabler and thus underpins economic growth. Therefore, not only it improves our ability to prevent or react quickly to security challenges such as terrorism, natural or man-made disasters, but also facilitates the security sector’s growth. The ability to prevent or react quickly to these events lies at the heart of the EU’s Security Research program but this is also complemented by industrial policy measures to improve the competitiveness of the EU security industry.
