The European Commission invites you to provide feedback on discussion papers about the corporate responsibility
The European Commission invites you to provide feedback on discussion papers about the corporate responsibility to respect human rights in 3 business sectors:
- employment and recruitment agencies
- oil and gas.
These discussion papers have been published by Shift and the Institute for Human Rights and Business as part of an EU initiative to develop sector specific human rights guidance in the 3 sectors.
The guidance will be based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Rights.
The online consultation is open until 30 June 2012.
The European Commission recently hosted multi-stakeholder roundtables in each of the three sectors.
The roundtables enabled more than 100 representatives from business, trade unions, NGOs, academics and human rights experts from inside and outside EU – including Burma, Kenya, India, and the US – to discuss key human rights issues and challenges.
In the Communication on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) published last October, the European Commission identified the development of sector-specific guidance on the corporate responsibility to respect human rights as one of its priority actions.
In parallel, the Commission is also developing introductory guidance on human rights for small and medium-sized enterprises.
