The competition calls for concepts on how to communicate the importance of air quality and how citizens could be better informed about the many aspects connected with it.
How to submit your idea
Ideas are to be submitted online. Participants can win an iPad each month. Once the competition comes to an end, a prize will be awarded to the overall winner by selecting one of the monthly winners. This prize is a weekend trip to a major European capital.
Applications for the competition will close on 31st December 2012. The initiative addresses citizens whose place of residence is in an EU country.

Discussions on particle matter (PM) and driving restrictions in many European city centres show how air quality has become a sensitive issue in modern industrial societies.
The challenge needs to be taken further. On the one hand, clean air is a fundamental right to every citizen and represents a key element of quality of life. On the other hand, the economic activities (i.e. transport, tourism, etc.) also have an impact but cannot be completeley banned.
In the future, the new online platform obsAIRve will help local authorities to inform their citizens about air quality in near real time via PC and mobile devices. For this purpose the pilot service is processing air-quality data in close cooperation with the environmental authorities of several countries.
The goal of the competition
The aim of the “obsAIRve” ideas competition is to raise public awareness for air quality in cities, by encouraging interested citizens to brainstorm on new creative ideas for communication strategies. The concepts should disclose the contradictions between environmental and economic interests and address them with appropriate communication methods between concerned citizens and responsible authorities.
Prizes to win
Each month a winning idea will be identified. It will be published on the obsAIRve portal and advertised through the social media.
The prize awarded to monthly winners is an iPad. After the submission deadline (31.12.2012) one overall winner will be selected among all monthly winners.
The prize of the overall competition is a weekend trip to a major European capital as well as additional free promotion for the awarded idea.
